Douglas County offers a wide variety of 18-hole and championship golf courses. Here is a list of area courses, both public and private.

• Arrowhead Golf Club: Roxborough Park: public, dominated by outcroppings of scenic red rocks, 303-973-9614.

• Castle Pines Golf Club: Private, membership by invitationonly, home of the annual Sprint Internatioanl Professional Golfers' Association tournament and nestled amid pine thickets in central Douglas County, 303-688-6000.

• Country Club of Castle Pines: Private, on a bluff above older Castle Pines Golf Club with commanding panoramic views, 303-688-7400.

• The Ridge at Castle Pines North: Golf magazine rated this course one of 1998's top-10 new, public golf courses in the United States, one of the top 100 courses in the country and the No. 1 course in Colorado. The Ridge is at 1414 Castle Pines Parkway, 303-688-0100

• Canterberry Golf Course: On Canterberry Parkway, east of the Town of Parker. Public course. Back tees, 7,178 yards, 303-840-3100.

• Inverness Golf Club: Private 18-hole course just north of County Line Road in Arapahoe County, 303-397-7878.

• The Links at Highlands Ranch: Public, with reduced green fees for Highlands Ranch residents, an executive-length shorter course, as well as some 400-yard par-four holes, 303-470-9292.

• Lone Tree Country Club: Owned by South Suburban Recreation District. Public, 18-hole course; 9742 S. Meridian Blvd., 303-799-4043.

• Perry Park Country Club: Private, situated among picturesque re rocks at foot of Rampart Range in southwestern Douglas County, 303-681-3186.

• The Pinery Country Club: Private; 27 holes allow this unusual layout to be played as three distinctly different 18-hole courses, 303-841-2850.

• Plum Creek Golf and Country Club: Castle Rock; Semi-private, 18 hole course designed by Pete Dye, 303-688-2611.

• Grand Golf Park: Driving Range, miniature golf, and pro shop at 9655 S. Quebec near Lincoln Avenue, 303-470-9300.
